چکیده

We present 1.4 GHz VLA observations of the variability of radio sources in the Lockman Hole region at the level of ≥ 100µJy on timescales of 17 months and 19 days. These data indicate that the areal density of highly variable sources at this level is < 5 × 10 −3 arcmin −2. We set an upper limit of 2% to the fraction of 50 to 100µJy sources that are highly variable (∆S ≥ 50%). These results imply a lower limit to the beaming angle for GRBs of 1 o , and give a lower limit of 200 arcmin 2 to the area that can be safely searched for GRB radio afterglows before confusion might become an issue.

The ATESP Radio Survey IV . Optical Identifications and Spectroscopy in the EIS - A Region ⋆

This paper is the fourth of a series reporting the results of the ATESP radio survey, which was made at 1.4 GHz with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. The survey consists of 16 radio mosaics with ∼ 8 ′′ × 14 ′′ resolution and uniform sensitivity (1σ noise level ∼ 79 µJy) over the region covered by the ESO Slice Project redshift survey (∼ 26 sq. degrees at δ ∼ −40 •). The ATESP survey has p...

Evolution of Agn and Stellar Formation through Radio Surveys

The change in the slope of the radio source counts suggests the emergence of a new population of radio galaxies at mJy and sub-mJy levels. Our understanding of such faint radio sources has advanced over the last decade through increasingly sensitive radio surveys and follow-up works at optical wavelength. The sub–mJy population seems to include both star forming galaxies and classical (AGN-powe...

The Phoenix survey: the pairing fraction of faint radio sources

The significance of tidal interactions in the evolution of the faint radio population (sub-mJy) is studied using a deep and homogeneous radio survey (1.4GHz), covering an area of 3.14deg and complete to a flux density of 0.4mJy. Optical photometric and spectroscopic data are also available for this sample. A statistical approach is employed to identify candidate physical associations between ra...

AGN and Starburst Galaxies Seen through Radio Surveys

The emergence of a new population of radio galaxies at mJy and sub-mJy levels is responsible for the change in the slope of the radio source counts. This population seems to include both star forming galaxies and classical (AGN-powered) radio sources, but the relative importance of the two classes is still debated. We present results from the ATESP radio survey and its optical follow-up and sho...

The clustering of sub - mJy radio sources in The Bootes Deep Field

We measure the angular clustering of ∼ 2000 radio sources in The Bootes Deep Field, covering 5.3 deg 2 down to S 1.4GHz = 0.2 mJy. With reference to work by Blake & Wall, we show that the size distribution of multi-component radio galaxies dominates the overall clustering signal, and that its amplitude extrapolates smoothly from their measurements above 5 mJy. The upper limits on any true galax...
